We write a lot of reports here at Wax Plum and these reports take basically a standard shape and then they have new content in them, new numbers, and then new information new insights and kind of a story that we want to tell our clients about what happened that month and then what we can do moving forward.
We generate these reports by pulling together a lot of data from different marketing platforms and, thinking about it and finding the trends, et cetera. I think this is the kind of thing that AI should be able to do really well.
AI is really good at automating things that aren’t exactly the same, but that are patterns that change from iteration to iteration. So we’re gonna see if Claude, Claude Coworks specifically can write my report. And the reason we’re using cowork is because we’re gonna give it access to my files. Here is some synthetic.
Sample data from client made up client. Here is organic traffic to the site Google rankings. We’re also gonna give it a sample of a recent report that we want it to emulate. Alright in addition to that I wanted to write this to notion, so I connected it to my notion. Uh, We’re gonna use Claude Sonnet.
And I’ve written a prompt already that just basically gives it a role. Specifies the task. Not too much detail. I’m sure we could do more. Gives it an example, is often useful for AI. And then tells it how we want the output to look where we want it to go. So let’s give this a shot.
Now claude should probably come up with a to-do list. It’s gonna think about it. Oh, let’s check the time. 3:52. Okay, so it’s come up with this to-do list. It’s gonna explore the PDFs. It’s gonna it’s gonna read how it is supposed to read PDFs. It’s gonna extract the info, it’s gonna analyze, it’s gonna write the report to Notion, and then it’s gonna verify.
Let’s see how it does.
Okay. Interestingly, during that process it said it had failed to write to notion a couple of times and then it like tried a different thing and apparently succeeded. Let us find out.
PAC Heights Facial Plastic Surgery, SEO report. This looks, on first glance a lot like a report that I would write. Hi James. This is your ranking traffic report for February, 2026. Yeah, looks amazing. Let’s check the numbers though. ’cause I did this once last year and it looked, everything looked perfect and then the numbers were just.
Totally bonkers. They were just totally made up. 5.88% 5.88% with the current visibility. 6.48. Yeah, that looks great. Just one more set here. 3.37.
3.37. Okay. I would, of course. Go through and check all of the numbers here before showing this to a client. And in fact, I would never show this to a client. I think what this does and what AI can do for us really is give us a first draft 80% of the way there. This is probably 95% of the way there, assuming the numbers are right.
Of course I could give this to a client and it would be useful. But what I would miss out on would be actually, and I can’t, I have to confirm that all of these next steps and recommendations from it are correct. But, I often use AI for analysis of websites, but I’m always in the loop. So what I would do with this is use this storytelling format. It patterned on examples that I gave. Some positive numbers from last month.
Where things continue to be strong and then maybe things that need work. I like that story pattern, assuming all these numbers are right, I could use this directly in my own report, but then I want to tell a story about what these mean. Is there a page we need to work on?
How would we work on that page? What do we need to do? What are the next steps?
So this is incredible. It’s understandable that people are freaking out about Claude Cowork in particular because it seems to be able to do a lot of our jobs, but. For me, this is a positive, It can help speed up. This was, oh, I didn’t look at the clock.
So let’s look at the clock again. It’s 3 59. You tell me what it was when we looked before. This took a few minutes to do, and this important would normally take me an hour, and a lot of that is going through the data and extracting, what I need from these PDFs and CSVs that I’m downloading.
But then I want to use that information and tell this story to a client for them to understand what’s going on and for me to understand what’s going on and come up with recommendations and that we can execute on those recommendations. So that second part is the most important part. The first part has to happen, and I think we can allow AI to help us with that first part with finding information, and then it’s up for us to figure out what to do with it.
As we begin trying to automate or partially automate, co-pilot, if you will, more and more of our processes here. We’re gonna keep sharing the stuff that we’re working on. I’m doing this with more and more of my clients and with their permission, I’m gonna share what we’re doing with them. If you are interested in how to use AI for real work, follow along here because we’re gonna keep. Running these kinds of experiments, showing off these cool tools like cowork, which has access to, if you let it, everything on your computer, Gmail, your files Notion, Chrome you name it.
So if you’re interested in how AI can help you do real work follow along with us because we’re just gonna keep doing these experiments and showing off what we’re working on.
